Hello, I plan on becoming a Koodo customer in the near future but I have a couple of questions that the representatives at Future Shop and Best Buy were unable to answer for me. The first and most important is in reference to the phone selection. I cannot seem to find any official information on when new phones will be released to Koodo although both representatives thought this would be happening within the next few months. I am especially interested in the LG Voyager but any information on up and coming releases would be appreciated.

My second question is about student plans. Does Koodo offer any incentives to students above and beyond the general population. The customer service reps didn't seem to think so but this seemed rather odd considering practically every other company does...

Thirdly, I am entirely new to buying a phone and I was wondering how the allocation of a phone number works. Do you have to choose from a small list or can you play around on a computer until you find one that you like which is available? Thanks so much for any help!

To answer your questions in order...
Koodo head office does not tell anyone what new releases are coming out. A new phone or 2 come out maybe every 4-5 months...you can expect new releases during back to school, christmas, summer, etc.
The LG Voyager is a phone they most likely will not carry.

Koodo has a student plan until September 6th that provides 150 daytimes minutes, unlimited incoming calls, 50 free outgoing text (unlimited to receive) and 7pm evenings and weekends for $30/month...thats a good deal.
Plans such as these specials don't run very often; however, they will pop up from time to time. There are no other discounts for students/seniors.

As for the phone number, Koodo allows you to select the last 4 digits of your telephone number and the first 3 will be given to you. Expect to get a (647) area code if you live in the Toronto/GTA. Or, you can choose the first 3 from a short list and the last 4 will be random. This type of selection can be done at a Koodo Shop kiosk (corporate). Search the website for Koodo Shop locations.

For the love of God's green Earth, please, do NOT sign up with Koodo.
You will sorely regret that decision soon after.
As far as I'm concerned, they have the worst reception and quality of service in Canada.
Calling corporate to get my damn money back and go straight to Rogers again.

Phones come out really slow with Koodo - because they’re all pretty much refurbished phones. I have a friend who works at London Drugs electronics dept, told me that.

They run using the Telus towers, i admit I’ve been pretty annoyed with their service. Texts is my biggest peeve with them, cuz they either don’t go through or are ridiculously received at a later time, or date. I use to be with Rogers, and even though they have better reception - from my own god awful experiences I will never go back to them.

But I must admit that as a student - I’m cheap. I enjoy not having to pay those monthly service fees most companies tack on, and i can actually keep my plan pretty low. I don’t really care what my phone looks like, and there is no contract. Student plans are offered at the beginning of the school year - bummer, so you have to get it fast during frosh week.

As for #'s. If you already are on a plan (ie. with Rogers), and want to keep that number, koodo can actually take your number off Roger's list. Even if you still had time left before your contract expired it will cut it off. So you don't have to pay any cancellation fee, but only the time during that month your plan was still active with them.
