Find out what fruits and vegetables are in season for Vancouver
First published on June 27, 2009
Since most major grocery stores stock their shelves first based on supplier relationships, then based on what’s “in season”, many people (myself included) have no concept of what food is actually grown locally and at what time of year. If you live in Metro Vancouver and want to start planning more of your meals with a local mindset, a good place to start is getlocalbc.org. This simple yet useful website has, among other things, a list of what’s “in season” right now on the front page, and a list of places to get locally-grown meat, fish, and produce.
The seasonal chart PDF is good to keep around for quick reference. Hey, we actually do grow grapes (in September) and kiwis (October to January) around here!

Hi there,
Is there another/up-to-date version of that PDF floating around somewhere? I can’t access this one (methinks because the PDF’s name has whitespace in it, which browsers don’t like).
Cheers,
Chloƫ
Reply from Peter: Looks like they moved the PDF; sorry! I’ve updated the link now.
