Please note that Canadian area codes for MagicJack became available as of late November 2009. There are some limitations:

First, the Canadian codes are only available for those registering a Magicjack. At this time, previously registered numbers may not switch to a Canadian number.

Second, the numbers available are limited. When I last checked, only 3 provinces, Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec, had some area codes listed, but not many.

Third, Canadian numbers cost an extra $10.00 per year. I had waited almost two years to register my Magicjack while waiting for a Canadian number. My area code was not available, but I chose one for another portion of Ontario.

A representative told me more numbers/area codes are being worked on because there has been such a strong demand from Canadian customers. I also asked if Canadian customers will be able to switch to a new number one time for free, like American customers are able to, but she did not have an answer for me.

If you go to the Magicjack website and the list of area codes, scroll down below the US area codes and you will notice the new list of Canadian codes.

http://www.magicjack.com/9/areacodes.asp

I must admit being pleasantly surprised that MagicJack actually made Canadian area codes available. Another example of "good things come to those who wait."

Please note I posted this information on another forum as well recently.

The Source will be selling MJ in Canada by mid to late December. All the info above from CanadianLady is correct with regards to using it in Canada.

I ordered mine online through the website and am waiting for delivery... so exactly how do I get set up with a Canadian area code?

I have been looking to buy Magic Jack in Canada for the past few weeks (just didn't want to buy from EBay). I heard the same, where I can buy it from the "Source" after a couple of the Source stores I visited to no avail, I was told that the Source will no longer caryy the product - in Canada at least -as they (the Source) in Canada was bought by "Bell", hence ( and I still quote the Source employee) the Magic Jack is considered a competitor to Bell so they no longer carry it!
Please don't shoot the messenger.
After all, I will buy one from EBay.

Bought a MagicJack last night at the Dixie Rd Outlet in Burlington/Toronto. Plan to install later this week. Cost $56 incl taxes and 1 yr service. Looking forward to using it as a 2nd phone, and when I travel (which is often). Will likely cancel my long distance plan from Bell to rcoup MJ investment and to save $. NOT planning to replace primary land line.

MagicJack is available in Canada through TigerDirect.ca for $42.97 + shipping which works out to $71.25. The Source’s public reason for stopping sales of them is because of too many defective units. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to realize that it was dropped after the purchase by Bell because it was competition for their own service.

You would be much better off if you purchased straight from the US website. It ships from Canada with no duty for $39.95 US + 6.95 S & H or basically $48 CAD. You will have it in your hands in about 3 – 5 days. The other option is to go across the border to Walmart and get it there and save the shipping costs.

When you register it online it will offer you a Canadian phone number if you want it but you have to pay an additional $10 right then and there and pay $29.95 per year instead oif the regular rate of $19.95 after your included first year of service or you can just get a US phone number and you are ready to go. Either way it is a steal compared to regular phone rates in Canada. You will still need to either keep a landline or a cell phone for e911 service as this is not offered with magicJack.

This is also a great option for ex-pats to keep in touch and not have to work out calling times as they do with that other voip service. They get their US or Canadian phone number, can call anywhere in the US and Canada just like they were home and their friends and family or clients can call them on.

I don’t work for magicJack and never have. I am just sick of all the professional product bashing that is going on. I have had the product for over a year and am very happy. I just wish they would come out with a unit which doesn’t require a computer.

Ok, (1st first) of all (“there” and “their”), "kingsclear" why don't you use you real name as in MR. DAVID J TICKNOR!

(“Then” “than") "kingsclear" will have to replay to this diss:... "hear" "here" is what he will have to say "I am not MR. DAVID J TICKNOR.

Mr. Adams this is (to, too, two 2), messed up. Since "kingsclear" real name is NEIL ADAMS.

Spelling has nothing to do with it

As long as you “to” “too”, can add 3 + 11 (Required)

YOU COULD MAKE THIS POST...

AND “there” “their” YA HAVE IT

p.s. He shot himself in the foot by suing the company that produces his only product. He would have been much better off if he had worked with magicJack LP and developed the Canadian market in unison.

p.s.s. i AM HAPPY YOU HAVE NO LIFE AND NO CLUE!

Sorry to burst your bubble but I am not who you think I am. I am just a private citizen who is fed up with the bickering and dissing that has been going on about magicJack. There is so much disinformation going on (see "1984") that readers are getting more and more confused. I am sure that this is the intention of the people spreading the disinformation.

To all those people who have been sitting on the fence about this let me assure you:

magicJack is an awesome product that works

magicJack is best purchased at a brick and mortar store in the US if possible otherwise shipping charges can get steep. You will find them at the cash aisle at Walmart with all the other "as seen on TV" products.

When you get it home you will have the opportunity to get a Canadian phone number but it will cost you an online payment of $10 US to register it. A US number is inclluded in the $39.95 US price of the magicJack along with the first year of service. Your annual cost of maintaining the service will also be $29.95 US instead of $19.95 US but it is still a heck of a lot cheaper than anything else out there where you get a Canadian number, caller ID, voicemail, and 3 way calling included.

The audio is fantastic but you must have a good high speed connection and a half decent phone plugged into he magicJack. It will not work with dial-up or really slow high speed connections. You need probably 1 meg or higher. If you need to check your high speed connection I recommend http://www.speedtest.net.

Be aware that magicJack does not participate in the e911 program so you need to have a cell phone or a landline maintained to get 911 service.

And, yes I wonder about people who can't spell their way out of a wet paper bag. If the shoe fits... It is absolutely amazing how our society's ability to spell has gone right down the crapper. I know you were trying to put me down by all of those comments in your last post but I just chuckled. You should try having a respectable conversation rather than dissing someone.

As far as revealing my indentity the owner of this website is all to able to follow my IP address and discover that I truly am not who you think I am.

And, last but not least, unlike you I do have a life. I am not always having to defend myself.

I am hoping that, once this trademark crap in Canada is sorted out, that Dan Borislow puts this guy out of business for good. He has been nothing but a nuisance.

All kinds of new Canadian numbers now available on magicJack as of April 12 listed here. It is now also possible to change the phone number on an existing magicJack for an up front fee of $10 US and $10 US extra per year. Just go here and follow the links to your settings page.

Way to go Neil. You tell'em what you are. I bought your router based voip analog telephone adapter and you did provide me with a Canadian phone number. Only, you kept disconnecting me, claiming that I used up my credits (prepaid ...eh..!!!) and ultimately I could call out BUT could not receive any incoming calls. At first complaints you only wished to express "who you were not". When I returned to you a copy of our original e-mail communication did you seem to fix things. After that, YOU NEVER AGAIN REPLIED to any of my queries /complaints. So, lets see, I got about 3 months service and some 6 months half service and then it died. Well, my conclusions are .... you are a typical Canadian company who takes advantage of the lack of effective Canadian Consumer Laws. You wait behind false promises and lies but cannot or will not provide that which you sate/promise/advertise. Either you guys are bogus business types or Canadian EH a-Holes. In any regard MAGICJACK.com people are fabulous and in today's tech world who the hell needs any more Canadian yahoos. I was compelled to write this to warn other Canadians not to fall into your trap. GO Yankees. (If any Canadian authority is listening in .... earn your wages and put the likes of these guys to task or in Jail. A disappointed Canadian.

I purchased MJ a couple of months ago and I had absolutely no problems with the set up. It worked great , and so I thought I would cancell my land line. Everything was OK .But , and there is always a BUT ,I didnt have the same confidence in it for use my principal home phone . I live in Ontario and I was able to get a local number , but you are unable to cal 1 800 numbers or any 800 combination .Some times the conversations were a bit "choppy" or they had a "lag" and a few times the call just ended .So at this point I called my cable company and got my original service and number re installed.I now have the MJ as a second phone number and think that is the way to go for now. It just isnt at the point where it is reliable enough to be trusted as a main phone provider. It does what is says it will do ,I just dont have one hundred percent faith in it at the moment .You dont really appreciate or understand how much you need a reliable phone provider untill you switch to something else and it makes you think about it.So as a second phone I give it two thumbs up .

Hi

I have now used the USA Magicjack and now the Canadian version Cantalk and now it is called Talkit. The Canadian version is way better. With the USA one it is sometimes hard to hear, you have to have the jack with the phone that you talk on (only 1 phone). The only benefit here is the USA calls. The Canadian one I had hooked up in my Basement and had phones with (3) handsets and it worked even when I was talking in my garage. It was also very consistent and you could hear very well. When renewal time comes I am back to the Canadian one. Thanks

Just like Peter said (You gotta give him Props)...Giving you as much crap as possible. Good crap, though. Useful crap.
__________________________________________________
Hi this is the CEO of CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD or Mr. Neil Adams...our company only has 26 customers since OCT 30, 2008.

We have no partnerships with MAGICJACK.COM, LP, YMAX..

Nor do we want to!

On there website: Magicjack.com shows all of our provinces in CANADA! on there site...so you think as a new Canadian customer that there must be a Canadian number that comes with it....Magicjack.com has been giving Canadians the run around with this since late 2007...Ok we have Canadian Numbers...oh no we don't ...oh yes we do...oh wait a sec...aaaa....next month...no wait no.. Canadian Numbers are coming and no there is not an exact date for this.

Talk about selling them just to make a buck.

What CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD was told is that its going to be the first week in "JAN 2009" that they are going to have them.

CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD calls their bluff.

This is CRAP...

So we will be the first to keep things real and step up to the plate.

#1. Pick up your Magicjack see how it says "TM" well that is not the case in CANADA!

They only applied for (TM) in Canada on 13 May 2008.

http://www.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-c.....exOnPage=1

We found out about this on OCT 29, 2008.

DR.SING and Mr.Borislow knows about the email we have from both of them dated (Thursday, May 08, 2008 3:45 AM Subject: SMALL WORLD) later on that day..see above .

That said...

30/10/08
As of today CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD
is now a Federal Corporation and registered
with http://strategis.ic.gc.ca or Industry Canada.

15/11/08
CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD has taken the
first steps and made a application to the C.R.T.C.
to become a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier.

After that...

kraM lovaP
President of Direct Connect Communications (Consultant)

Sent us a email wanting a CANADIAN Local Number.

After finding out that it was Mark (Nice Try Mark)

We called them back and "Peter and Mark" told us that they didn't want us to sell Canadian Numbers and if we didn't stop they would take the next steps.

We said to bad CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD will not stop selling Canadian Local Numbers to Canadians just because you can not.

And we hung up on them.

That said...

They took the next steps and stopped everyone from selling CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD Magic Jacks at the resellers price or wholesale price.

Just ask ED the owner at Proactive Events!

SO LET THE "TRUTH BE TOLD" IT WILL SET YOU FREE...

This is how our company is still able to sell Magic Jack and why Magicjack LP can not figure out how we are still doing it...

CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD pays "Full Retail" price for our Magicjacks and makes no money off of them.

CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD has no partnership with THEMAGICJACK.CA

So when a customer buys a Magic Jack from CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD you will see it is the same price as THEMAGICJACK.CA price.

We just pay MAGICJACK.COM or THEMAGICJACK.CA the same retail price as you do... as if you went there yourself and paid for it .

CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD is the only company as of today's date that can offer Canadians a Canadian Local Number on there Magicjack when both MAGICJACK.COM & THEMAGICJACK.CA can not!

We sell Canadian Local Numbers not Magic Jacks and that is how CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD pays our bills.

Cheers,
Neil Adams CEO
CANADIANMAGICJACK.CA LTD
1-800-493-0740

P.S.

When Magicjack.com does come out with "Canadian Local Numbers" you will have to change your "USA Number" to a "Canadian Number".

So that means if you have friends that live in the USA they will not be able to call you for free anymore on your USA # because you will have to change it to a Canadian number only!

With Canadianmagicjack.ca you will be able to have 2 numbers:

USA Local Number & Canadian Local Number#

You are now chatting with 'Brent'

Brent: Hello, how may I help you?

Neil: Hi I know you don't have Canadian numbers yet and that they are coming next year

Neil: but here is my question

Brent: Hello Neil.

Brent: Yes Neil.

Neil: When Canadin numbers do come out will I have to change my USA number to a Canadain one?....thanks

Brent: Yes Neil. Once Canadian numbers is available Neil, you can change your US number to any Canadian number once for free.

Neil: ok but does that mean i don't have my old USA number anymore?

Brent: Yes Neil. Once you change it to Canadian number.

Neil: So I lose my USA number right?

Brent: Yes Neil. Since you change you replace your US number with Canadian number.

Neil: That's not any good

Neil: is there a way to have both of them at the same time if i pay two times?

Brent: I do apologize Neil, that feature with two magicjack numbers will not be available.

Neil: no just one magicjack and it can ring both USA and Canadian number on same magicjack

Brent: I do apologize again Neil, having two magicjack numbers with one magicjack is not yet possible.

Brent: You may have two magicjack for two magicjack numbers.

Neil: but that would cost over $125 USD to set that up

Neil: with taxes and shipping and duty to Canada if I got 2 magic jacks

Brent: We do not have the estimated costs as of the moment Neil.

Neil: And I only have 1 computer and you can't use 2 magicjack on the same computer

Neil: ok thank you for your time

Brent: We will keep you informed once it is available.

Neil: ok bye

Brent: May I have your contact email address please?
